When Chicago hosted the World’s Fair in 1893, people around the world bore witness to some of the most innovative automation ideas of the time, including the first Ferris wheel, first moving sidewalk, the zipper, spray paint, the dishwasher and more. And now, 125 years later, innovation is coming back to Chicago. From Oct. 14-17, over 2,500 top suppliers and 50,000 packaging professionals will head to Chicago’s McCormick Place for PACK EXPO International, the world’s leading exposition in packaging solutions. On display will be awe-inspiring innovation, from advancements in automation and connected solutions to breakthroughs in augmented reality. 10. Hit a Chicago hot spot
The best way to get a true taste of any city is to experience some of its iconic culinary staples, and Chicago is no exception. Loaded with choices, from classic deep-dish pizza in Little Italy to saganaki in Greek town, the food options in Chicago are endless. We recommend digging into Gino’s deep-dish pizza, grabbing a UB Dogs hot dog or enjoying the homemade gyros at Greek Islands.
9. Find your sweet spot
The Confectionery Pavilion at PACK EXPO is always a treat. There you can network with exhibitors dedicated to the needs of the confectionery industry or satisfy your sweet tooth at the Candy Bar lounge. Make sure to mark your calendar for Tuesday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m. for the Confectionery Industry Reception, where you can relax and talk shop with other attendees.
8. ‘Gogh’ see some art
Take a break and appreciate the finer things Chicago has to offer, like its incredible art scene. The Art Institute of Chicago, located in Chicago's Grant Park, is one of the oldest and largest art museums in the country. On display are some of Vincent Van Gogh’s most famous works, including Self-Portrait and The Bedroom.
7. Monkey around at the Lincoln Park Zoo
Considered one of the most beautiful zoos in the country, the Lincoln Park Zoo is an easy place to wander for a few hours. The zoo hosts fun and educational programs for children and adults almost every day, including fitness classes, mini-concerts and nature walks. Check out the upcoming programs, daily activities and events on the zoo website. Admission is free, so head there whether you have just an hour free or a whole day to kill!
6. See the Chicago skyline
The Chicago skyline is one of the most recognizable in the world, and it’s best seen from above. Check out the Skydeck located on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower in the heart of downtown for a truly breathtaking view. And if heights aren’t you’re thing, go on one of the many guided architecture tours of Chicago.
5. Network at The Packaging & Processing Women's Leadership Network
One of the many advantages of PACK EXPO is the chance to connect with like-minded professionals. The Packaging & Processing Women’s Leadership Network Breakfast at PACK EXPO will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 16, 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. in Room E-450.

4. Master Millennium Park & the Magnificent Mile
If you go to Chicago and don’t see The Bean or shop on Michigan Avenue, did you really go at all? There is a reason these tourist hot spots are always brimming with people! They may be busy on the weekends, so get a glimpse during the week if you have some downtime!
3. Keep an eye out for the Amazing Packaging Race
PACK EXPO has something for professionals of all sorts – and even students! On Wednesday, Oct. 17, student groups will participate in this year’s edition of a PACK EXPO tradition, the Amazing Packaging Race. Teams will race around the show floor, competing to perform a variety of tasks at the booths of participating exhibitors – including Honeywell Intelligrated.
This event exposes university students to the possibilities the industry has to offer. Keep an eye out for the next generation of packaging professionals traveling the show floor starting at 9 a.m.!
2. Learn from the pros
PACK EXPO is a chance to learn from the best in the biz. This year the event offers free, 30-minute seminars presented by suppliers throughout the day at Innovation Stage venues on the show floor. No registration is required; you can just stop by at any time to rest your feet and learn something new.
